How do I file a police report?

Please dial 9-1-1, even if you do not have an emergency.  Our 9-1-1 operators are trained to obtain critical information about your specific call for service and will dispatch an officer to your location for a police report.

How can I get a copy of a police report?

Incident reports can be obtained in person at the Police Department.  Accident reports can be purchased online at www.getcrashreports.com.

Can I drive my golf cart on the highway?

Answer:           NO

NC General Statute 20-4.01(12b) defines a golf cart as a vehicle designed and manufactured for operation on a golf course for sporting or recreational purposes and that is not capable of exceeding speeds of 20 miles per hour.  NC General Statute 20-111(1) states that it shall be unlawful to drive a vehicle on a highway when the vehicle is not registered with the Division of Motor Vehicles.  NC General Statute 20-54(8) states that if the vehicle is a golf cart the Division of Motor Vehicles shall refuse registration or issuance of a certificate of title. 

Why do I see golf carts on the highway?

Answer:           The owner has registered their golf cart as a low-speed vehicle.

NC General Statute 20-4.01(27)(g) defines a low-speed vehicle as a four-wheeled electric vehicle whose top speed is greater than 20 miles per hour but less than 25 miles per hour.  NC General Statute 20-121.1 regulates the operation of low-speed vehicles on certain roadways to include:

* When the posted speed limit is 35 miles per hour or less

* When the vehicle is equipped with headlamps, stop lamps, turn signal lamps, tail lamps, reflex reflectors, parking brakes, rearview mirrors, windshields, windshield wipers, speedometer, seat belts, and a vehicle identification number.

* A low-speed vehicle shall be required to carry liability insurance

* A low-speed vehicle shall be required to be registered with the Division of Motor Vehicles

Where do I pay my ordinance violation fine?

The Police Department does not receive or collect money from fines imposed through ordinance violations.  You may pay your fine to the Town Hall located at 110 Rothschild Street, Holden Beach, NC, 28462.

Does your department do fingerprints?

If you need to be fingerprint, please contact the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office at (910)253-2777.

Is my pet allowed on the beach strand?

Pets are not permitted on the beach strand from 9am to 5pm, from May 20 through September 10.  Pets on the strand outside of the restricted times must remain under the control of the owner by means of leash.

Where am I allowed to park?

Parking regulations are defined in detail under Chapter 72 of the Holden Beach Code of Ordinances.  A brief synopsis is that you may park in designated public parking areas and along the shoulder of the road on most side streets.  Regulations prevent parking within 25 feet of an intersection, blocking driveways, mailboxes or fire hydrants, or leaving any portion of your vehicle on any portion of the designated travel lane.  Parking along Ocean Boulevard is expressly prohibited.  Please refer to Chapter 72 of the Holden Beach Code of Ordinances for specific details.
