04/24/09 - The total amount of sand hauled to-date is 152,433 cubic yards, leaving 39,567 cubic yards to be completed. Be advised that nourishment operations will not take place over the weekend. Residents are advised of increased heavy truck traffic from the bridge to the beach strand when the project starts back up. We anticipate wrapping up the project in a week or so.

04/03/09: The contractor is placing sand on the beach at a record setting pace. Several days that exceeded 11,000 cubic yards per day have been achieved for a total of 53,643 cubic yards, just over 25% of the 192,000 cubic yards contracted. Be advised that nourishment operations will be suspended at approximately noon on Good Friday and will commence again on Tuesday, April 14th. Residents are advised of increased heavy truck traffic from the bridge to the beach strand. 

03/20/09: Beach nourishment activities are scheduled to begin late Monday afternoon/Tuesday morning. The first placement of sand will be in the area between 200 OBE and 311 OBW. The second section of beach to be nourished is from 585 OBW - 785 OBW. Beach nourishment activities for that section should begin in about three weeks. Total time for placement of sand for the entire project should take about six weeks, wrapping up around May 1st.

03/14/09: The Town awarded the beach nourishment project to Wayne's Backhoe. The project is designed to place 192,000 cubic yards along two reaches (200 Ocean Boulevard East to 311 Ocean Boulevard West and 585 Ocean Boulevard West to 785 Ocean Boulevard West). Operations are expected to proceed on/ about March 16th extending through May 1st. Heavy equipment can be expected on the strand during this period. Residents should anticipate increased truck traffic onto/ off the island, up/ down Ocean Boulevard and accessing the strand. Citizens should be aware of the industrial nature of the beach nourishment activities and should stay 500 feet clear of active nourishment areas.
